Support in workplace

Hi, my autistic 23yr old son has had a few attempts at finding a job. He really wants to get out into the world and work & have a wee job. He's very capable however he suffers with anxiety, often overwhelming anxiety and this holds him back.

He couldn't cope with school and spent his teenage years at home so missed out on socializing and building on overcoming his social anxiety.

He hasn't been able to cope with any work he's been offered due to overwhelming anxiety and breaking down in tears & distress. What he needs is a very supported work environment where he can feel calm, safe and have some sort of one-to-one support person there for him. Does this kind of supported employment exist? How do I find out about it, where do I ask?

We've been with Into Work and they were unhelpful. We're waiting to hear back from Autism Initiatives (based in Edinburgh,  we live in Scotland) and I'm hoping they can help us find support.

Meanwhile I'm focused on helping my son with his mental health and supporting him as best I can at home. Thanks for readingHerb
