Special Interests - they’re just interests

Probably gonna annoy a few people with this but I’m just irritated with reading the term “special” interests. They’re just interests. Why is there the need to have the word special? Not once have I ever referred to my interests as “special” They’re just my interests. By referring to interests as special, just seems like there’s this need to feel, well, special.

    I suspect everyone experiences it differently. For me, they are obsessions because I feel a prey of my interests.

    It does have a second reason to exist which is that I would feel empty without it, and it scares me considerably to just replace it; I don't want to, there is meaning to it for myself.

    It is also a source lf stability, something pretty much static, unchanging.

    I am unsure this is for NT people as well, maybe for some it is.

    Defining it as obsession seems too much, but I suspect this is how specialists see it.

    In the public discourse, a softer term feels more adequate.

    Notice also the three possible readings (or more):

    • special interests -> special person. I with you here
    • all interests -> the special interest. Its another interpretation: that which stands out from all other interests.

    It would be an obsession if say you couldn’t work or eat without that thing I’d say 

    but yeah to a nt it would be an obsession even though I’ll admit I AM obsessed with Tay Tay snd trains and the circus just not in a negative way 

    it just means I can quote Taylor quotes to help people out or if someone asks me what car they should get I can do my yuri the close impression and go “Ferrari”
