Special Interests - they’re just interests

Probably gonna annoy a few people with this but I’m just irritated with reading the term “special” interests. They’re just interests. Why is there the need to have the word special? Not once have I ever referred to my interests as “special” They’re just my interests. By referring to interests as special, just seems like there’s this need to feel, well, special.

  • I can really focus on computer games, I can play a game all week if it’s ticking all the right boxes. I’ll play it like it’s the best thing I’ve ever come across and then drop it as if I’ve built up a tolerance to a drug that no longer sustains the original high. The come down from the interest can be met with a feeling of shame that I left the world for so long to pursue something unimportant
