What the hell is this mass fatalities thing in the UK?

I just heard of this and naturally I'm starting to worry. I live in a small town and don't really understand what's going on. I've seen people saying this is something that might happen in the future, but others are saying it's a hoax. Not really sure what to believe here

  • A responsible government will always try to be prepared for a mass casualty event. This doesn't mean that they are planning a mass casualty event (as some nutters think), only that if there were such an event, the emergency services, hospitals, etc. could activate their prepared plans, operate at maximum efficiency, and save more lives.
