Job advice

Hi,

im currently in the process of being diagnosed but im also on long term sick from work, when I was at work I was being bullied and I was having meltdowns that led me to being in really dark places.

i need a new job but im so scared from going from what i know and thinking I won’t cope and I can’t keep doing this cycle it’s draining and honestly I don’t know if I can do it again.

what can I do? I LOVE art but everything seems to wants qualifications or experience.

  • The OU (Open University) also has free online courses - including a lot of courses (across several different levels of study and varying hours of duration) within History & Arts:

    https://www.open.edu/openlearn/free-courses/full-catalogue?filter=title/grid/15/all/all/all/all

You can sort by course title, plus, you can use the filter "Refine by", then "Select by subject" to tick "History & The Arts" - which currently returns 141 courses.

  • Dear 72827,

It sounds like you have identified your strengths and passion for art, which could be the basis of finding a new job. There are some free online courses that are arts related that might be of interest, via Future Learn.

    https://www.futurelearn.com/subjects/creative-arts-and-media-courses

There is also a network of colleges for neurodivergent young people with various courses that are arts related

    https://pinccollege.ac.uk/pinc-education-group/

There might also be some volunteer roles in the arts that would help you build up experience.

All the best, keep us posted about how things develop.

  • Dear 72827,

It sounds like you are in a really difficult situation. I really hope the online community is a helpful resource for you during this time, I can see you have already had a really supportive reply. You are not alone with your struggles with employment, many autistic people have similar experiences and its great that you have reached out to get support.

I have included the NAS guidance on employment, there are a lot of different sections that might be helpful to look at:

    Thank you for reaching out,

  • If your good at art could it start out as a street art? Make a tip jar make a peice over the period of an hour to 3 hours but don’t make a sign that mentions payments

use this as a platform to offer your services to companies or individuals

this is where im at with my music I want to create my image next im going to cut my hair short where a cap and music T-shirts and start applying my Taylor 13 temporary hand tattoos(hopefully get talking to fellow swifties) im even trying to play as much Taylor and Olivia Rodrigo as I can

ive come to this realisation recently that yes although I spent years listening to pop punk, rock and nu metal. The music that made me is the music that got me through any tough times im work or that relates to happy work memories and those songs are mostly Taylor and Olivia (I discovered Taylor at work on the radio and Olivia on an episode on episode of snl)

pop music is me yes I do like the other genres but pop is my vibe but my voice and playing is probably inspired by those other genres but like Tay tay said Dont let your self be defined by genres

In any art Dont be afraid to be your self and express yourself

for two years i worried about calling my self a swiftie and using affectionate fan names like Tay Tay for her but one day i woke up and thought I need to listen to Taylor swift and instantly I was like man i need Tay Tay in my life and  now I dotn care what people think infact I kind of want to be known as rhe crazy swiftie who knows all the quotes all the eras goes ro all the tribute shows

self expression is such a important part of autism
