Flag waving

I don't feel comfortable with it either.

I find it ironic too.

I have never invested the flag with Christian symbolism myself, seeing it instead the flag of England.  What is gone is gone and good riddance where appropriate.  I like dragons too - much misunderstood in my opinion!  :-) 

Ideas for an alternative anyone?

I'll set the ball rolling by suggesting (in Latin for heraldic purposes)  duo clunes flatum emitterent to convey the idea.

I wouldn’t dare suggest an alternative, not being English, however I like some of the suggestions on this thread.

I appreciate your appreciation, also tour being reserved in this matter ArchaeC hehe, perhaps that might make you an honorary English person (as typically portrayed) and therefore eligible?  : -)

No I don't because I don't have a smart phone and am to stupid to know how to use one. WHat if the flag was floppy due to lack of wind or something, then you'd only get half a code and your phone wouldn't like it and have a hissy fit, then have to be defenestrated with the cry 'You bl00dy thing!'

The information could be variable — links to a picture of St. George - why print it directly on the flag when you can just scan the code with your lovely smart phone and have your own image on your screen to enjoy. 

Links to white roses, red roses, rainbow roses, red and white striped roses, blue roses …

Links to words and phrases that would be uplifting like “I will have a good time even if it kills me” and  “yippee” and “wonderful”. It would do the country good.

We are in the technology era and it would be bonkers not to take advantage of its advancement in the flying of flags.

I can just see herds of foreign tourists trying to take a photo of a flag with a giant QR code, I thiink their phones might get very confused. If we had a QR code, then we'd have to have some kind of information like you would for a normal QR code, so what would it be?

Northern Ireland :-) That's a different sort of Paisley pattern!  Love the idea of the QR code -  oops brings up Brexit tho' as being handy to swipe at the check out...  

Or a modern take with a giant QR code. Not everyone wants traditional patterns.

Hehe for what it is worth in the part of England I live in down locals greet one another with "Now then..."  in the county next to me " are you alright duck?" and when I go right back to my Norfolk roots:  "dew you keep a 'troshin" - yep really!

I intended my post to be a lighthearted take on the English history. Relatives I used to have from Lancashire used to joke about this when chatting to their neighbour from Yorkshire, and the joking was reciprocated. 

I am sorry if I have offended you. I am not clear if I have or have not. I was deliberately “stirring things”(Deliberately/with intention to provoke a response) in a way that did not intend damage to the discussion, more to add a bit of fun.

Perhaps my initial thoughts were correct?

I suggest colour at the discretion of the person or organisation.  Appreciate could stimulate enmity but hey? people in my experience will argue about anything... rainbow roses would be a great compromise in my opinion.
