Problem dog next door

My next door neighbours have a *** spaniel that barks persistently every other day, it's drilling into my brain and inducing dark thoughts.  Do ultrasonic devices or sounds and dog whistles really work to discourage them?  Id prefer to avoid confrontation or giving my identity to authorities.  Discretion is preferred.

If anyone knows an effective ultrasonic frequency for spaniels post it.

  • I think the evidence for ultrasonic devices deterring dogs is mostly anecdotal, and the devices are not intended to be used from a distance (next door) to stop a dog barking.

Even if the dog heard the sound, it would not be able to escape the sound and it is likely to make it stressed and potentially bark more. I have seen devices used to deter animals from entering private space, but not for controlling barking. I wouldn’t recommend them for any purpose with regard to dogs.

In the UK, councils normally deal with nuisance barking, but they would probably advise that you speak to your neighbour first to try and sort it out amicably. Some council websites have information in how to deal with nuisance barking under ‘environmental noise’. They may be able to advise further.
