Autistic trait i think

I have this thing where if two songs play one after another that have a link thats either obvious or a deep cut link I get so much autistic joy like right now it’s sweet dreams my la ex playing by Rachael Steven’s and next on the playlist is lax by big d and the kids table haha

and just had 4 version of anti hero In a row each one was somehow unique like the first one was the lit version my own worst anti hero and the second one was the Taylor feat bleachers veraion

another one I like is playing is in any order overkill by Colin hay/men at work and hold on loosely by 38 special becuase they share the same verse chord progression and time signature and everything and are made to be mashed up

im such a joyfull little autistic music geek and becuase i used to hide some of the music I enjoy as I masked to appear a normal mid 30s man I had so many times I hated music and gave up on it but now that I don’t mask it the autistic joy flows out so much

  • I think it’s why autistic people or at least a lot of us like buses trains horses and water all of them involve structure routine risible timetables or patterns of some kind

  • I like sequences of things. Can be anything (e.g., coloured dots on a table cloth in a repeating sequence). I spot them and think, Ooh! Nice!

Patterns, particularly visual ones, also get me revved up. One of my more esoteric favourites happens when reading text. Sometimes, I spot a "white" line running down the page (usually diagonally) formed by the alignment of the spaces between words across multiple lines of text. I'll stare at it from lots of angles for a minute or two, marvelling at just how straight it is. Curved lines can be even more fascinating.

Patterns or regular structures in nature have me blissing out entirely. I walk around with a big grin on my face. (Unless someone's watching, in which case the mask goes on, but I'm still grinning underneath.)

  • I think it stemms from our pattern recognition trait:

    https://www.autism360.com/autism-pattern-recognition/

Pattern recognition is the capability to identify and confirm small details, patterns, or events in one’s immediate environment

You spot a connection in the songs and it triggers a dopamine release through the success.

It kind of loses its magic when I lay it out like that - sorry.
