A question about artwork submissions. Also, hello.

First of all, let me just say hello to you all and tell you a little bit about myself.  I just joined this community a couple of days ago and I'm a late-diagnosed autistic man aged 56.  My diagnosis came at the age of 53 and so for the vast majority of my life things haven't really been all that straightforward or easy to deal with.  I'm sure you know what I mean and there's no need to labour the point since I'm sure a lot of you have experienced the exact same thing.  I'm on the waiting list for an ADHD assessment as well, though that's not likely to take place for a while yet.  I also have something called Klinefelter's syndrome, which gifted me with an extra X-chromosome and brought with it a raft of extra health problems.  But you know the old saying: when life gives you lemons, demand a refund.

I've spent the previous 35-odd years in full employment but now I'm on long-term disability and PIP.  Needing a hobby, I've taken to drawing and, to my surprise, I found out I both enjoy it and am apparently good at it, if the feedback from random strangers has been anything to go by.  I decided I wanted my artwork to be seen and so I came up with the novel solution of visiting local pubs, sitting in a corner and drawing while nursing a pint of something, listening in on other peoples' conversations and waiting to be approached so that a conversation can ensue.  Think of it as the tactic of a very shy trapdoor spider.  I just do my thing and people can approach or not as they please.  I've discovered that it's a good way to "fit in" without the need for excessive - and unenjoyable - masking.  I can be myself because the first thing I tell anyone who approaches is that I'm autistic, which gets me a free pass to talk and be weird without anyone making assumptions about me that they might otherwise make without the artwork.

I'd like to submit some artwork to Spectrum and I went through the process of uploading a few pictures to WeTransfer and then submitting the link to Spectrum, but there's no acknowledgment that the files have been received.  I don't want to make a nuisance of myself by badgering anyone, especially because I'm the newbie here, but does anyone know how I can find out if they were received, or if I should send them again?

Thank-you for reading this and, again, hello to you all.

PS - I can post a picture here if you want to see what I'm on about.

  • Interesting, I'm an artist too, but been a bit burnt out lately so not really got around to it. Good for you, drawing in a pub. I have to be alone when I paint and could never stand the noise and people of a pub.... but I have exhibited my work a few times in various locations, mostly church halls and public halls with a Franciscan friar who arranges these things.
