Autism and Remploy

Hi, I was recently diagnosed with high functioning Autism as an adult, due to work difficulties. Remploy are now involved with me and I am getting a bit upset with the advisor. She is giving me very basic sheets of questions that I have to say yes or no to, she is reading general autistic traits out to me, most of which don't even apply in my case and now she feels that she is in a position to advise my workplace on what adjustments I might need.

Does anyone else think that this is a bad idea? I would assume that only a specialist could advise on this kind of thing, the remploy advisor doesnt even seem to know properly what Autism is and just tells me that everybody does that, when I mention something that I have trouble with so I dont understand how she can advise on adjustments. I am just getting concerned as my workplace is wanting to dismiss me and I don't feel that this remploy advisor is helping the situation.

Has anyone else had good experiences with remploy and workplaces?

thanks

  • Hi recombinantsocks thanks for the reply.

Yes I do feel that HFA gives me a short fuse.

The problem is that my employer is itching to get rid of me and has tried many times. I am basically hanging on by my fingernails and the Remploy advisor keeps messing things up, telling my employers that I said certain things etc. that I haven't said or they have misinterpreted somehow. This then gets me a step closer to dismissal and even if I was calmer, the outcome would not change.

I do realise that in my case the remploy advisor is out of her depth, so I feel that she should stay out of it all for now, however if I ask for this then I am seen as being non co-operative and dismissal gets even nearer. Its all the meetings with my employers behind my back that I cannot deal with. I just feel that Remploy have made a bad situation even worse.

Sorry to hear that you are having work trouble too, I hope you manage the situation better than I have. Thanks again for the reply.
