Why Did Number Leave This Place?

Dear Fellow Online Community users,

NAS purport to encourage the adult autistic community to share and talk here ...... albeit within RULES which they set ..... which is obviously both essential and fair enough.

However, NAS also readily, happily, shamelessly and without ANY warning, simply terminate any such discussions at will, even when they READILY and OPENLY CONFIRM that no rules are being broken WHATSOEVER at that point THEY choose to terminate a discussion.

If adult autists can't discuss what's on their minds HERE.......then what - LITERALLY - is the point of having an 18+ adult-only autistic COMMUNITY forum space?

If we are given rules to abide by, and abide by them, but are also subject to unilateral and unjustified termination of our discussions.....then there is ZERO hope for this place?

With utter disgust, and disbelief (again - within the space of 24 hours.......when I'm not even "here" any more!)

Number.

PS - I CERTAINLY don't want to discuss pornography in this place.......but I WILL defend the rights of those who do wish to do so, within the rules set by Der current Management!!

PPS - If you mistake the above for hyperbole - please take a look at the (now locked thread) entitled "What do you think about pornography from Autistic perspective."

Next-level Shameful !?

  • Hi Number, the thing that surprises me most about all of this is the moderator’s statement that they locked the thread despite it breaking no rules because someone found it triggering.

Folks, if the mods locked everything I find triggering then half the threads on this site would be locked. I decided it was better to accept this forum isn’t for people like me and walk away than to ruin it for everyone else.

  • I agree A and Number, I think there must be a point at our rights to discuss freely things must outweigh the rights of others not to be triggered, afterall there's a very easy solution to there being a thread you find upsetting, don't look at it.

I'm really beginging to wonder if "triggering" isn't past its best, its used so widely to describe something that people dislike or find uncomfortable and away from it's previous use as something that would cause extreme psychological discomfort.

I know it's not going to happen, but I'd really like to know who those people are who got the thread shut and what their reasoning was? I often feel theres somekind of undercurrent here about shutting some subjects down and although I have my suspcions about the who and the why I have no proof and don't want to start off a massive spat.

  • As you know mate, I had reached the same conclusion, and had "excluded myself" for the same reason of not wanting to ruin/rock the boat for other users who remain active here.

    However......

...... when I saw the (what I perceive as a open character assassination) towards another very long standing member on here......without anyone standing up to call foul......I found myself compelled to type a response......because I felt sure that something NEEDED to be said.....for my own sanity and my sense of solidarity for ANYONE HERE who finds their own thoughts and writings so summarily and "unpleasantly" torn to pieces in open forum.....with alleged MOD pre-approval!?

    That lead me to see.......

......a few messages of kindness, and comments of support and warmth towards my sentiment......and then I saw that other thread locked, and explanation for that locking.....(and recalled all those "tricky and inevitably nuanced" same discussions on that horny issue we have both witnessed here over the years)......and thought that, at this moment in time, if even the ever-evolving rules here can't be relied up.....then anyone who needs or wants to discuss their thoughts and issues on here safely - can't do so.

Accordingly, I started this thread to prompt a discussion on these matters, that I consider FOUNDATIONAL for an autistic COMMUNITY forum.

I don't claim any righteousness nor think I am right on any of the matters that I raise for discussion here......because that is not how I'm wired.....but I do observe, analyse and process the world around me, as I find it, and write and speak how I feel it is appropriate to do so....just as everyone else here, hopefully, feels able and safe to do.

As you know, I like a quiet ship.......but also think that "reasonableness" and "common-sense fairness" is being openly thrown under the bus?!  It is inevitable (and I knew when I started this thread).....that I will now potentially (or inevitably, from some quarters) be seen as the one who is "starting trouble."

All I do is speak as I see, ask questions and invite discussion - hopefully whilst maintaining respect to all - but apologies to all, if the consensus opinion is that I should return my thoughts and energies to elsewhere.......something I will most probably do....although the more quiet and nervous voices perhaps occasionally need support here too?

Good to see you again....stuck in this machine with me = less lonely for me with you here......even if you want me to shut up!

    Be well A.

  • Good to see you posting again, A.

We have not always seen things the same way, but I respect your right to your opinions and I don't like seeing people leave.
