I don't know about your area but in the north east it's pushing ten years, or so I was told last week. After 3 years I went through the right to choose and was assessed within 3 months.

I’d recommend Right to choose, I am not sure how long I could have patiently waited for the NHS backlog to catch up. The thought of having to wait 6-10 years was unbearable.
