"Underemployed"

Hehe. I was described by a national newspaper recently as "underemployed".

(Just wanted to mention that).

Parents
  • Being underemployed is my whole life story. 3 foreign languages at B2-C1 levels, bachelor in logistics,  good PC skills, I also heard that I learn fast, pay attention to detail and have good analytical skills. And I can't get rid of low paid jobs like McDonald's,  call center,  which was a hel and now I'm working in a warehouse.  At least its not mentally damaging. I often get questions what's wrong with me, why I don't make good career with my skills and knowledge. I already know why- because I'm not self confident,  attractive lady with bright smile, I'm not a team player and I appear to be weird, shy... etc. And my whole life I hear what and how I need to be, but I can't change myself into someone else.

  • That really sums it up for so many autistic poeple. In fact its so good ibhave copied it to send tonothers anonymously. I hope youvdont mind.

    I would add that

    • I don't spend all day in idle small talk instead of working.
    • I find it difficult to be dishonest or disloyal.
    • I find it difficult to think iinside the box so come up with inventive solutions to problems.
    • I really care about poeple.
    • I knew my subject inside out.

But , hey, I was lucky. I got into the right job where I excelled because of my special autistic mind. This was despite school. I know others who were not so lucky. Classrooms made as autism unfriendly as they could be with noise, kids running around, being forced to sit around a table looking at classmates. Things flapping around from the ceiling and bright colours on the walls. All the schools do is prosecute parents for not physically forcing thier autistic children into this hell.

I had none of that. I was lucky.

  • I don't mind you quoting me. Yes, that's true I also talk very little and do what is my job and do it best I can. Honesty and loyalty- same here. I even feel guilty if I failed to finish everything during my shift, although my colleagues tell me to chill out.
