3-2-1 - I'm back in the room!

Hi everyone, I haven't been on the forum for the last 10 days due to moving home. It's been ex-haust-ing!

Finally got broadband set up this afternoon after over an hour on the phone talking to a support person, which was very draining.

The amount of posts on here for the last 10 days is a bit overwhelming at the moment, so I'll look through them when I have a bit more energy.

Hope everyone is well and having a good evening.

  • Glad to see you back, I feel for you and your internet problems, it was bad enough when we had ours upgraded a few weeks ago, that seemed to cause untold amounts problems, getting signals and stuff.

I bet you never want to look at a cardboard box ever again! Are you enjoying your new house?

  • Thanks Catwoman.

We had to get a new broadband plan when we moved, there was no option to continue our old plan which we'd had for a few years, and they sent us a new router. The instructions that came with it were as clear as mud, and when I contacted support I had problems due to autistic literal thinking. First guy said there should be a black box on the wall. I said, we don't have that, we've got a BT phone socket which we've connected to using a broadband filter connection like at our old flat, so please send an engineer out to fit this black box we need. He passed me to customer services who went through security again then just said the order was complete and passed me back to support. But finally I got a guy who explained that there should be a white box on an outside wall to which a black box is attached, and that gets attached to the router via a LAN cable. We had seen this, but didn't know it was for our router to be connected to as it wasn't shown in the instruction booklet. The white box on the wall is plain - it doesn't say "open reach" on it. I certainly felt I had a bit of a Catwoman moment!

Thankfully once connected correctly, our router quickly set itself up and our broadband connection is good. There is a mess of cables though and it uses two power sockets for just for a single broadband connection. Luckily it's in the living room and we've been able to hide most of it behind a storage unit.

Hopefully we will not have to move again for a very long time, if ever!
