What’s everyone’s opinions on ASMR?

Personally It makes my brain sick, way too much sensory overload. Why anyone wants to hear someone chew or gulp water rapidly is beyond my understanding. Tapping the microphone or making ticking noises with their lips, sorry it’s just horrendous.

  • I've seen some of the videos on YouTube (showing my age; everyone's moved on to TikTok) and never thought to myself, Ooh! I'd love to hear the sound of a human doing X. I tend to find artificial sounds more irritating than soothing. Usually very irritating. Sounds from nature I like, though. Particularly things like birdsong or waves on a shore.

    Random textures, on the other hand (obviously), I really like. I like running my fingertips over things. Even when I'm out walking, I'll brush my fingers off walls, fences, leaves, flowers, bark, etc. A lot of the time, I don't even have to make contact, I can just see something and recall its texture and play it back in my head. I'm guessing that's an Autistic thing.

    So, I get how nice sensory input can be, but sounds are not at the top of my list.
