Hello all and anyone
I seek your guidance and advise, PLEASE.
My teenage son (19) has finally been properly diagnosed with PDA Autism. I am British and he lives with his mother in Denmark (Danish) so I am not looking for any UK support or money, but I seek your advice how we can potentially get support in Denmark or Internationally from autism charities like yourselves.
When my partner and I were still a couple living in the UK we took our son to the Brain Balance Clinic in Miami [link removed by moderator] for a private 3 month assessment and diagnosis for his condition back in 2011 when he was 5 as we could tell he had major issues and at that time we did not know who to turn to. He was diagnosed with Autism ASD and it was explained to us finally. This 3 month private assessment drained us of all savings but it had to be done.
in 2014 pressure grew and we split up but I have since been paying child support of 1500 GBP per month that is 25% on my salary, as my ex wife left the UK to live back in Denmark to be closer to her parents. I still transfer this money to sustain them today as the Danish Government refuse to help them both financially.
The reason I seek your advice is because Autism in Denmark is terribly supported by the government to the extent my ex wife was rejected by the Danish government to acknowledge our son is even autistic. Recently he finally got to see and be assessed by a Danish psychologist who knows about autism and he has again been diagnosed with a major profile of PDA autism. My son is 19 and has never been able to feed himself, wash his hair, brush his teeth, get dressed, he cannot clean himself after using the toilet, and he was forced by the Danish government to go to school like this which had a major toll on him, my ex and myself. He did attend a special school but they themselves never understood just how much being forced to get up and go there took out on him and his poor mother when he returned home with melt downs.
If his mother does not 24 hrs a day care for him he cannot do anything basic himself, if she dare leave him alone he would melt done. He cannot sleep in his own bed, yet with all this and more the Danish government refuse to listen or consider his care, his life and especially that of his mother who has struggled with his care on he own, taking a massive toll on her physically and mentally, she has NO LIFE of her own.
We have removed him from school, and he does not go out the house unless his mother has to, and he can never ever get an education never mind a job, and the Danish Government insist they will not support my son, nor his mother and my son must get work, and so must she if they want to live.
I am contacting you today as I am financially struggling myself, I cannot send 1500 GBP of my salary anymore to pay for their rent, their food, their sustainability. I am now at a point where I am mentally drained, financially drained, and stressed to death if I do not continue to sustain them, they will be left to rot and die, such is the attitude of the Danish Government, and I have years and years of evidence to corroborate all these statements.
I would like to know if you are aware of any Autism organisations in Denmark or Internationally that can try help us, since the Danish Government want nothing to do with my son or his terrible PDA autism, and have no duty of care for his mothers well being either.
I would greatly appreciate any guidance you can share, thank you.
