Just One Book

Is there one book on Autism that you would recommend as a way of explaining yourself to others? You know, "Here, read this, it will help you understand what goes on in my head." (Sort of like that book on a different topic that my mum gave me when I was 12.)

  • Well I've just begun this one so I am not sure it's the best one, but so far it seems very helpful. 'Self care for autistic people by Dr Megan Anna Neff' she's one of us so that helps. I need to learn self care I bouncing in and out of burn out and life is overwhelming.

I look forward to seeing other people's best reads

  • Oh!  That title is one I already have on "save for later" on Amazon (my internal wishlist ...towards which to budget).

I would be interested to hear, sometime later, your review please (once you have a chance to explore that book a bit more).

  • Well I've read most of the book and before I lose my place to reply to you. It's got lots of practical advice on how to help yourself regulate which is useful. It's not really the sort of book you pick up read through and done, it's more one you have an issue with say interoception and then you look at that and practice the tips she gives if they help you. So it may well be worth your time and money, but as a Christian is pretty offensive so I will either tear out the bad parts or take notes on what I can use and chuck the book.

    Hope that helps.
