Just One Book

Is there one book on Autism that you would recommend as a way of explaining yourself to others? You know, "Here, read this, it will help you understand what goes on in my head." (Sort of like that book on a different topic that my mum gave me when I was 12.)

Parents
  • I’ve just started reading this one so I cannot give a full opinion on it yet but the title caught my eye. He’s a comedian who was late diagnosed and wasn’t aware till a member of his audience pointed it out during a show that he’s autistic. This lead him down a path of doubt, self discovery and eventually realisation.

  • I enjoyed that book. Novellie provides a good basic grounding in Autism as well as telling his personal story. I didn't relate strongly to standing in front of crowds for a living, or having a major problem with chewing noises, or being quite sociable and outgoing, but there was still plenty of overlap with my own experiences.

  • I share the same view of this particular person being hard to relate to. It’s naive of me of course to assume every person who is autistic is also introverted as this is not the case. Are there any booked published by introverted autistic people or does that contradict their nature if it were the case?
