Hypersensitivity in Autistic Adults

I am Andrew aged 54 and was diagnosed with Autism in 2023. I also have panic attacks, anxiety and depression which was also fully diagnosed in 2023. I am looking for research papers on Hypersensitivity in Autistic Adults. The reason for this is I am unable to cook because of the smell and taste. Texture is an issue but not as much as smell and taste. I have sensory issues with clothing and washing and bathing. I am unable to regulate body temperature and need to either use an aid to wash and bathe or have help from another person. I chew my t shirts.
I recently applied for PIP and was told by the Tribunal Judge that it's a lifestyle choice why I don't Independently cook and wash and bathe
I was further told it was medically impossible to have Hypersensitivity as a autistic adult to hot or cold temperature. They did award points for communication because of my Autism. For me this is not about PIP but standing up for myself as a autistic person who suffers from Hypersensitivity.

  • I'm not certain what "medically impossible" means, but I also have hypersensitivity to temperature. When my hands, feet or neck get too cold it registers as pain. I can tolerate warm temperatures better, but once it gets higher than about 26C I can get very uncomfortable and don't want to do much.

I'm wondering what you eat if you don't cook?

  • My family will cook something for me. But I can't eat anything that is spicy. I don't eat Chinese, Indian, Italian etc. I tend to eat a sandwich, soup, haddock but no other fish. I don't eat meat. I do like vegetables but the smell of them cooking I can't stand. Hope that answers your question.
