Something I am still trying to get my head around is the non structured way autism is viewed. No one person has every symptom or way of thinking as the next person and everyone will have different levels of support needs. It’s easy to think there’s a scale which starts from severe to “high functioning” but these lines are often blurred. Some people are obviously severely impacted by their autism while others may barely make the diagnostic threshold…. or do they? Ironically black and white thinking doesn’t help when trying to get a grip with this type of issue for sure.
