P45

Well, my ESA finally stopped after a number of years. Got my P45 the other day, so as of the end of June, my income has gone down from approx £120/week to £0/week.

I've been looking for jobs for the last 4 years but haven't made a single application as there are barely any jobs to apply for.

On the plus side, my "business" income so far this year is £250 (subject to the invoice actually being paid). Not enough to live on, but I guess its £250 more than I earned last year.

Wish me luck.

An approach that can work here is to find all the businesses in your area that it would appear hire people with your skills and write to them, asking them if they have any positions and enclose your CV.

The scattergun approach can generate results but requires a lot of effort to track down the companies and also requires an acceptance that the rejection rate will be very high.

Looking for companies can start with Google maps where you can see all the businesses in the industrial estates / high streets / business district etc, check their details (click on the business name and you can often see their website or contact details on the left of the screen and keep plodding through them, then once your area/town is covered then move onto other nearby towns that are easy to get to.

I would try to spend 8 hours a day doing this as it keeps me feeling like I'm working and keeps my timekeeping working.

What is your line of work? We may be able to offer a bit more specific advice around this.

  • So sorry to read this news. There are barely any jobs about.

I hope that something comes your way soon. Not sure what your options are, but I'm sure someone on here will be able to advise you.

    Take care of yourself. xx
