Weird/ problematic special interests causing guilt

Hello, I have been having a problem about feeling guilty for what my special interest is even though I can’t control that I like it. My special interest happens to be a certain rock band who has a very problematic singer. I love the band, the music, and the members. I keep getting made fun of and judged by neurotypical friends for having the band as my special interest since some of their music is problematic too and some of the fans are bad. How do I stop feeling ashamed for what I like, I know I can’t make myself not like the music? (Sorry for unorganized speech my English is not very good and I am stressed)

I was speaking to someone the other day about this.  I'm fascinated by ***, if a documentary about *** is on, I will watch it. I've seen so many Nazi documentaries I could probably name you all of the high ranking *** along with a brief accurate resume.

My politics is very liberal, I am an active (i.e. I actually get involved and do things) supporter of LGBT+ rights, and part of my job is supporting asylum seekers to gain residency in the UK

But I can't get enough of those ***!

I don't watch with hate or anger, I'm quite impassive, in my head in the context of 1930-1960 (up until Adolph Eichmann was captured) it's just data. As opposed to Anti-Semitism in 2025 which I would openly and actively oppose.

I'm sharing this with you, because out of context I'm very aware of what being enthusiastic about *** sounds like, the kind of impression it would give someone, but within the Autistic mind a special interest is just some compelling data.

If you picked up this response 26 days after you wrote it, I would be interested to know how you were feeling now?

  • Joy Wow when the key element of your post has been censored, that makes communication incredibly difficult. But I'm talking about the fascist organisation who ruled Germany during the 1940s, sounds a bit like "blasé"
