My film of the week: Groundhog Day - Do you wish you could relive a particular day, or experience deja vu?

Today I watched Groundhog Day, where a weather reporter gets stuck in a time loop living the same day over and over. It was entertaining and funny in places, and I love Bill Murray - I think he's one of the best comedy actors of all time. I watched it on C4 catchup, but it's only available for another 24 hours so if you want to watch it you'll have to be quick!

If you have seen this film, feel free to post a review here, or if not - post about anything you've watched lately.

For those of you who don't watch films - is there a day in your life you'd like to relive and do things differently? Or do you often experience deja vu?

  • I saw a little bit of Groundhog Day when I was little, but it was only a few scenes. I'll watch it if it appears on Netflix at some point. I recently completed a game called Deathloop, which is a puzzly, sci-fi stealth/action adventure. The main protagonist keeps reliving the same day in the 1960s again and again because of a time anomaly being manipulated by some amoral scientists. You need to use the advantage that your character remembers what happens where each day to get the upper hand and break the loop. It's great. Slight smile

Speaking of deja vu, I've literally just experienced it writing this post. I reckon it's because I haven't slept well for a few nights because of how hot the weather is at the moment. I prescribe to the theory that deja vu is an instance of corruption in our ongoing memory making, so our brain has to quickly make a second memory (or 'save') of what's happening. Our brains are gooey computers after all, and I only experience it when I'm really tired.

  • I suppose for me it would be a day in September of 1998. My wife and I had been driving around New England and at that point we were in New Hampshire. We decided to stop for lunch in a town called Meredith which is on the shore of lake Winnipesaukee. It was warm the town was pretty and the leaves were changing as it was the beginning of "fall", lunch wasn't bad either.

The song Iris by Goo Goo Dolls always takes me back to that day, I can almost feel the warmth of the sun and the cooling breeze from the lake.

  • I buy beans every week, Sometimes it feels like I'm reliving the same week when I put the same items on my shopping list again! Smile

  • Haha, maybe you are reliving the same day then? Smile

  • I have de-ja-vu quite often, usually its about something really mundane like buying a tin of beans and I end up thinking to myself, why was that so important that I needed to do it twice?

  • I have a feeling you have posted this before? Thinking
