finally got a date for assessment

after over 3 years i have a date for my assessment in 4 weeks time.  relief and so worried at the same time.  what if i cant explain well enough for them to understand, will i forget what to say,  i mostly communicate via writing so will that be enough.  minds on overdrive now.  also says clinical interview in acia, is that the same as ados cant see much about it online.  asessment is with a senior pychologist and an assistant psychologist.  should i write anything down to take that will take the pressure off a bit.  any help would be appreciated, thanks

  • That's great news!

You might find the advice here helpful - it includes a downloadable resource to help you prepare for your assessment:

NAS - What can I do while waiting for an autism assessment?

There's also more information here, including what happens during an assessment, and tools and criteria:

    NAS - Assessment and diagnosis

This site explains a little about the interview you mentioned:

    "ACIA: around 2 hours

    • The ACIA semi structured interview takes around 2 hours. This includes a detailed developmental history, specific questions about characteristics associated with autism, as well as exploring potential co-occurring conditions, such as ADHD, anxiety, OCD and physical conditions
    • The ACIA can be conducted remotely or face to face depending on individual preference and can be used with or without an informant (someone who knows the person well)
    • The ACIA is used for adult assessment for people aged 16 years and over"
