Newly diagnosed working adult, father: what should I read?

Hello. I’m newly diagnosed as autistic. I’m in my late 30s, work full-time in a professional role and I’m the main carer to my two children under 5 (my wife commutes a long way for work so is out of the house for long hours) - giving the background as particularly interesting to read about being an autistic parent and working in a high-powered job (not saying this to boast but just to give some background) while autistic.

  • Hi and welcome to the community. The most useful book I read was "A field guide to earthlings - an autistic/asperger view of neurotypical behaviour" by Ian Ford. It explains how autistic and NT brains work differently and why this causes differences in sensory experience and behaviour. It helped me understand my colleagues better and improved my working relationships.
