Newly diagnosed working adult, father: what should I read?

Hello. I’m newly diagnosed as autistic. I’m in my late 30s, work full-time in a professional role and I’m the main carer to my two children under 5 (my wife commutes a long way for work so is out of the house for long hours) - giving the background as particularly interesting to read about being an autistic parent and working in a high-powered job (not saying this to boast but just to give some background) while autistic.

  • I found the following book nice and easy to dive into any subject that was of interest at the time:

Understanding Autism For Dummies - Stephen Shore, Linda G. Rastelli, Temple Grandin (2006)
    ISBN 0764525476

It is nice and direct and does not need you to follow long chapters to understand the subject in hand well enough to start with. Great when time is limited.

A much more useful resource would be to get a psychotherapist with a good track record of working with autists as we are all very different and they can help with much more to-the-point discussions and training for you.
