When a relationship ends & you're financially dependant on your partner

Hi there
My partner can no longer cope with me and has just ended our relationship. I've been diagnosed with ADHD and on a waiting list for autism assessment. I'm 47, completely dependant on my partner financially and not currently working. Over the last year I received multiple diagnoses and currently going through the PIP reconsideration stage.
- Where do I go to get help? (they want to sell the house ASAP)
- Is there any help? (suspect little help is available)
I knew this was coming and have put a few savings aside but not enough to cover finding a new home and paying rent. Any advice or information would be hugely appreciated as I currently have no clue what to do or where to go. Online trying to speak to Citizens Advice but no-one available. Think I need to be up earlier for that.
Many thanks in advance.

  • HI there, so sorry you are going through this.  As a previous poster has mentioned keep trying to contact Citizens advice.   The advice you receive will vary based on whether you are married and have dependent children, what things/assets are in which names etc.  If you are disabled, you are classed as a vulnerable person and may have increased rights to homelessness protection.  If you have no income of your own or a small income from assets you may be able to apply for varying rates of Universal Credit which can cover living and housing costs with expectations to work or complete lower/no ability to work assessments.

As I say, start with Citizens Advice and keep going on your PIP mandatory reconsideration.  It all seems overwhelming but while you wait for a response maybe look at the Shelter website, Universal Credit government website.  You can also try and see if you book half hour free with a local solicitor if you want to discuss things like financial assets etc.

If you are in any danger of harm by your ex in your current living situation, please also consider Women's Aid.
