Care plan needed for Blue Badge - help please

Hi everyone,

Today i received the answer from Blue badge team, requesting some additional information - the care plan from my council OR some other proof of how my autism affects me.

Can someone tell me what this is and how to get it?

Ive called my council and they told me the care plan is only for those who cannot wash themselves, walk, prepare food, etc...

All of that isn't case with me. In my case I have issue with random unknow people, open spaces, public transportation, queuing up, doing shopping, etc. Because of that I always sleep during daytime, and I avoid going out during daytime. I never use public transportation. It affects my work as well. Ive no idea how do I "prove" these.

Please if anyone could advise me on this, thank you.

  • You could make an appointment to see your GP to discuss how your autism affects you and what your needs are. Your GP may be able to write a supporting letter for the Blue Badge team.

  • Hi, can I ask for some more help about this please?

So, Ive talked to my GP about this. She told me to send her what she need to write in the care plan, then she will do it. However, im not sure what exactly does the blue badge team except. What should be the format of it? What should I focus on; my traits and why do i need a blue badge or which steps am i taking to cope with my autism related issues? I dont really get it...

My GP told me that they usually contact her directly, she also doesnt know exactly what do they actually want. :(

  • I would suggest that you contact Citizens Advice https://www.citizensadvice.org.uk/about-us/contact-us/

I am not familiar with the process but I see that the requirements for extra evidence of your difficulties can vary between councils. It is excellent news that your GP is willing to provide information.

I cannot give legal advice, but I would suggest you prepare for Citizens Advice by making a list of the reasons why you have difficulty getting around without being able to park in disabled spaces, or on roads that permit disabled parking.

Eg, you mentioned in your original post that you sleep during the daytime. That in itself might not be a reason to get a blue badge, but if the reason you sleep during the day is to go out at night so  you can avoid people due to autistic sensory issues and/or anxiety or depression, then the reason you need a blue badge would be to allow you to go out during the day so you wouldn’t need to walk so far, or mix with so many people when you go to an appointment, or shop, or dentist etc. That is only an example as you will have your own reasons and I cannot give legal advice.

After getting the required information from Citizens Advice (that hopefully will allow you to complete a list of your difficulties that would be helped by being allowed to park closer to your destination), send it to your GP.

I hope Citizens Advice are can help you.
