You may be aware of the auditory illusion of Yanny/Laurel. The two names are spoken simultaneously, and yet your brain only hears either Yanny or Laurel (theres "brainstorm" & "green needle" too).
The reason I mention this is because I often hear spoken words in white noise or external sound. I wonder if it has a connection with the auditory illusion.
I would walk down the street with a bag on my shoulder, and the bag rubs rhythmically against my jeans as I move. The sound created sometimes sounds like dialogue, as if there is a spoken word hidden in the sound.
Any thoughts on this? Is it to do with auditory processing? Is it an autistic trait? Does anyone else share this weird hearing experience?
