The hell of looping

  • Hi all does anyone else struggle with looping thoughts? Mine are horrendous and once I'm stuck on an anxious thought I cannot stop and it gets so bad I feel like I don't want to be here anymore. I can't seem to distract myself from these thoughts

  • Holy cowww I thought I was the only one with this issue. Well I feel less alone lol. I once had the phrase “I am the king of the hill” (no idea where my mind caught that) stuck in my head for over a year. Recently I had a pretty harmful looping thought that took a while to shake off. Unfortunately the only thing I know that can be a fix is thought stopping, or in other words every time that phrase comes up you have to think of a response to it to dismiss it.

Ex. “I can’t do this anymore” should be followed up with “But I’m going to try” or “Actually, I can do this” or “But I can do X instead”

That helped me last time I had a harmful looping thought.

  • Thanks for the reply Holy cow. I'm sorry you suffer with this too .I've been doing it my whole life I thought it was just anxiety until my support worker pointed out that it was the autism. It's a horrible thing to go through and zaps all your energy.  I often end up in meltdowns beaceuse these episodes won't stop. Thanks for the advice I'll try using that technique. X
