There's no support group in my area

hi everyone

I'm 20 years old diagnosed at 10 and I've had no support regarding my Aspergers at school they stopped my statement because I didn't have any learning problems. But that was when I was 14. I have had no support at all and 6 years on I just feel like there's no help/support for me. I'm leaving uni next year as I graduate, but I know I'm adult now but I need some kind of support. A lot of people I left school with and college have all had their first jobs I've applied for loads and I get rejected every time. I had like two interviews. I also would like to meet another adult with Aspergers as I have never met another female with Aspergers and I've only ever met one male with Aspergers. I feel my friends do not understand the problems you face with being an adult with Aspergers. Would be nice to meet a female who understood the same problems with me. I am lucky and have a very good boyfriend but he isn't Autstic so he only go on what I tell him.

Lovely chatting you you all

:)

... joining a club or group for any special interests you have?

Depending on your interest you are likely to find yourself in a group of like minded people who aren't necessarily diagnosable as AS or HFA but there may well be some members who are further along the introverted spectrum than "normal".

AS is more prevalent in males and more likely to be picked up among school kids but, believe me, there are plenty of females who are way down the spectrum with us. e.g. I have an aunt who is undiagnosed but definitely there, a colleague (in IT) who has many of the traits etc etc. Do you think you can spot other fellow travellers amongst the people you know?

I haven't joined any ASD groups but I suspect that they are more use to parents and carers than us?

I have a slight concern that you may find yourself just seeing yourself as more and more different when actually we are more similar to a lot of NTs than we are to many other people on the spectrum. I have a best friend at work who is not AS but is very introverted but manages it better than I can. I can talk to him and share my problems and that is often useful.
