Adulting issues

I hate being an adult with AuDHD sometimes (and short). It makes little tasks so difficult. I live on my own so I have limited help. The light in my oven stopped working. At first I just ignored this problem, I couldn't process it as it's not something I've ever had to do before. I slowly worked my way up to googling it and finding out what to do. I found out that there is 2 types of light and that put a pause on my progress again as I didn't immediately know the answer. Tonight I finally decided I should find out what kind of light it is so that I can get the problem sorted. Can I reach the back of my oven so I can unscrew the cover and find out what kind of light it is? No, no I can't. So now what am I supposed to do. I'm not very good at house work stuff and my oven isn't exactly the cleanest so I don't want to ask my parents for help as I will probably get disapproving looks/comments when they see the oven.

I know this is a bit random and a very specific issue but I just find problems like this so exhausting to deal with.

  • Hello. I can seriously relate to this. I live on my own now and it’s a learning curve, you’re having to deal with a lot of new things as they happen. If you can definitely do ask your parents for help, we have to start somewhere and if you do get a comment remind them of that.

There’s no shame in asking for help and once you’ve been told and shown once, you will be prepared for next time. My dad helped me last year when my shower head got blocked up. Now I can do it myself yippee!

I hope you can get your oven light sorted. Be kind to yourself, and remember no one is born knowing how to do these things. We learn as we get older.

  • Thank you. After a bit of a rant and a nights sleep, I've managed to have another go. I was in the shop anyway buying normal light bulbs so I decided to take the gamble and buy one of the oven ones they had, thankfully it was the right one. After a bit of rearranging the oven and putting myself at a different angle I was able to get the thing out and change it. Sometimes just have to give myself a bit of space from things and allow my brain to recover itself so I have the capacity to solve the problem.

And as you say I know I can do it myself now so hopefully won't be such an issue in the future.
