Untypical book

Had anyone else read the book untypical? I find a lot of it resonates with own experiences and feelings. It made me feel a bit less lonely. Helpful to.download on kindle and underline and share with someone else who wanted to read and understand.

I sometimes wonder how long it will take to process Autism diagnosis because right now it feels like I am doing a huge amount of work on so many aspects of my understanding that our brains work in such a different way and that we think about things very differently. I love doing this work in many ways because it feels important to understand and be cognizant of things that I need to address and change that will be of positive benefit personally but there is also a huge rawness of emotions right now too. As an autistic person I often get told I am too intense and that I over think things yet try as I may I cannot alter that I feel very deeply about most things.

  • Hiya, if you're referring to the book written by Pete Wharmby than yes it's one of my favourites.

Like you I found that I could relate to this one a lot better than the others I've listened to on audio, mainly because he's more my demographic and was diagnosed later in life.

A lot of the newer books about autism/ADHD/neurodivergence have been written by young Gen Z women and, as helpful as I found them, I found it easier to relate to a 40-something man because I'm also a 40-something man.

I hope he writes another one. I've stopped listening to Amazon Audible for the foreseeable due to the current oligarch situation in the US and the political stance and exploitative nature of Jeff Bezos himself. I have as little to do with that company as possible anymore. Hopefully I'll find another audiobook service because that's where I listen to books and autism, therapy, mental health and anything I want to learn. It's easier to listen and take it in when I'm walking. Blush

  • Thank you, it is that book and like you as a late diagnosed adult I find it really quite comforting to read, there is so much that is relatable and well explained. I love to read and listen to audio books and podcast. I think.for many of us we just love learning and studying.
