A magazine article on autism in girls

Is the headline article in the New Scientist magazine this month and I'd really like to read it, but the magazine is nearly £7!, it's not much cheaper to subscribe to an online copy and you have to sign up for a 3 month minimum. I know these things have costs that have gone up recently like everything else, but £7 for one magazine article, could any of you afford that?

  • I went to our library today, they didn't have the magazine or the book, they didn't even have the book on thier system, it hasn't been out long enough yet.

I sort of feel iffy about buying more books on Kindle, I can't get a good look at any graphs or maps or anything because they won't enlarge. I think kindle have changed the terms and books you think you've bought may disapear or if you change device you maynot get the ones you had on your old kindle on the new one. WHich seems to me to be a bit of a con.

Thanks Mrs Snooks, but I wouldn't know where to begin with a webinar, I'm not even sure what one is if I'm honest, is it an online seminar or lecture?

  • Is the book called "The lost girls of autism" ? If so, you can buy a kindle version for £11.99

  • Eventbrite is a website.

It is free to register your interest in attending an event.

They email you a link (ready to join the webinar event).

  • Is eventbrite an online platform or zoom type of thing?

I think I'll wait for the book to come down in price a bit or see if the library can/will get it.

  • Hi, Amazon are offering a free 3 month audiobook trial, the book is listed as available in this format.

I have stopped having a classic car magazine, it used to be £5, it’s now £6.99. I can buy a paperback book for less.

  • Professor Rippon will give a free public lecture about her book on Tuesday 6 May 2025 at 18:00 BST at Aston Business School via Eventbrite:

  • Northern Ireland Libraries has an excellent range of magazines and it carries New Scientist. I have just borrowed a copy.
Your libraries in A. allow you to download magazines with no charge

    Thank you both.

I hadn't known about this so it's a good find.

NS is available online at my library too.

  • The book is £17, I might get that instead, our libraries been cut to the bone, they make us wait for 6 months before they will buy a new book, I don't think they let us borrow magazines, but I will check tomorrow.

  • Your libraries in A. allow you to download magazines with no charge, according to their website

  • I have run my eye over the article and it looks like a summary of her new book.

  • I've a funny feeling it's something that'll get me sent to moderation

Caution is recommended! Speaking from experience!

  • Thanks for letting us know about New Scientist.

Magazines are so expensive now, some more expensive than a paperback book. If you have an account with your library, you might be able to borrow the magazine online.

Northern Ireland Libraries has an excellent range of magazines and it carries New Scientist. I have just borrowed a copy.

  • They are currently running an online trial  -  £10 for 10 weeks.

I'm not putting the link in here, because I've a funny feeling it's something that'll get me sent to moderation again, but if you just search for it...

  • I don't know, but good point I'll have to see if she's got something coming out, thanks.

  • Hi. Do you think it is just a summary of her findings for her new book? Gina Rippon, I mean. I looked her up after you recommended her.
