I told her I'm autistic...

I have this young woman I'm really close to, and yesterday we spent 8 hours together on a road trip. 

I was so scared of telling her this, but I told her I was autistic. I was properly terrified. 

She just accepted it. When I told her I might have ADHD as well, she reassured me, assuring me she didn't remember me interrupting her, and on the way back, she seemed to think she interrupted me, and said 'See? I've interrupted you now!' 

She seemed to enjoy the whole day- both causing me to laugh uncontrollably with her stories and then teasing me about it, me talking obsessively about Hills and Holes when we were there, having a campfire with me, and planning to visit on my birthday and Go Ape afterwards. 

She's been writing me such positive messages afterwards when I reached out to thank her, saying how much it scared me to open up to her like that, saying I've been 'really great', I should not worry with her at all, and that those who did hurt me in the past (Which was everyone before her minus just one person)- that it was 100% their problem, and concluded they 'had to work on themselves'. 

I wish everyone was like that. She isn't autistic, too.

  • I didn't know about "Go Ape" adventure locations before ("10 exhilarating outdoor activities for ages 4-104") ...so you will perhaps need to imagine me sat reading the OP ...with a quizzical look on my face - for quite a while there ...thinking it through (give me some slack, as it was before breakfast!)...so there is this great-sounding young woman, who is kindly going to visit them on their Birthday ...and then something happens like: "to become extremely angry: She went ape because I was half an hour late.  Becoming angry and expressing anger."?).  That cannot be "it" ...Go Ape?

    Well, I did finally get up to speed there ....in the end ...so do please enjoy your Birthday, plus the outdoors adventure activities at a Go Ape location together.

    (I think I had better eat breakfast before I read any other posts ...yesterday, I had a busy afternoon, out and about including social interaction with 4 new-to-me people ...I think I must still be rather "light on spoons" / in energy deficit - judging by my lack of cognitive olympics prowess this morning!). 

    Oh, well, I am merely human, after all.
