Post diagnostic support - what does this cover and where to find this type of support

Hi

I have recently been diagnosed as being autistic. I am wondering whether it might be helpful for me to book some post diagnostic support sessions. Would be keen to hear what things they cover, what people have found beneficial attending these types of sessions and where I can find this type of support please?

The GP has referred me to Turning Point which isn't exactly helpful as I'm keen to speak to some-one who is qualified to help, not just a generic counsellor / therapist.

Thank you in advance

  • I am wondering whether it might be helpful for me to book some post diagnostic support sessions.

I would heartily recommend getting a trained psychotherapist who has plenty of experience working with autists.

I found one and made great progress with my issues and learning techniques to reduce the stress caused by my autistic traits.

From what I have read on here the NHS does not really offer anything substantial - most of it is aimed at neurotypicals if it is even available and coverage is very variable.

Private psychotherapist sessions start about £50/hour but one or two a month was plenty for me so not bank breaking.

  • Thanks that is really helpful
