London Victoria Line announcements are exceptionally loud and distressing

I’ve noticed that announcements on the Victoria line in London are unusually loud, with a high-pitched speaker voice. The volume seems much higher than on other Tube lines. Has anyone else experienced this? Can TfL be asked to adjust the speaker volume on the Victoria line to match the levels used on other lines? Thank you.

  • Thank you, it’s good to know there is an ongoing discussion about it. Regarding TfL staff, I suppose they also advocate for the removal of unnecessary announcements, which would benefit others as well. I’ve noticed that many people on the underground wear headphones, not always to listen to something but simply to block out excessive announcements. For example, on the DLR from Bank to Lewisham, where stations are close and there are 15 stops in only 27 minutes, the announcement “Please take all of your belongings with you” is repeated at each station, which means 15 times altogether: once every two minutes! Is that really necessary? Someone commuting from Lewisham to Central London every day hears it 30 times a day, around 800 times a month or around 9,000 times a year. Isn’t that excessive and even somewhat insulting to people travelling on DLR routes? They are the only ones considered so forgetful that they need to be reminded every two minutes not to forget their belongings, while passengers on other TfL routes hear this announcement only at terminal stations or not at all.
