Any thoughts on sprouts?

Any thoughts on sprouts?
I love sprouts, always have.
However, a very strong memory for me is being taken to my grandmother's church one Christmas, and the priest asked some people who had contributed a lot to the church that year to come up to the front to be congratulated and then he gave them some chocolates as a reward. When they bit into the chocolates it turned out to be chocolate coated sprouts! No idea if they were cooked or raw. I'm sure there was a moral lesson of some sort that followed but that has been lost to time.
I don't really mind them, it's just a little concentrated cabbage after all. They are nice oven roasted with bacon, garlic and maple syrup.
When it comes to sprouts I always think of the Vicar of Dibley Christmas special where Geraldine and David have their sprout eating contest
Hilarious!
I do enjoy sprouts, though admittedly I can only eat them in a gravy meal with other vegetables. I could never have them on their own.
I love sprouts as long as they are al dente. I usually steam them but I also chop them in half and add to stir fries.
They are good IF they are given an appropriate dressing.
The base flavour is not that appealing to me but their slightly bitter taste works well with a little intense savoury addition.
For me it is with a little melted butter and finely chopped bacon bits - the counter play of the flavours allows them to blend and become somethig quite different. ie tasty.
I guess vegans could use caremalised onions or similar for an alternative.
I was flabbergasted that this thread actually took off!
I think that combination would end up with one having ones own personal hole in the ozone layer, lol.
LOL
Love the post, one of my favourite vegetables but will be coming out of season soon, so enjoy whilst you can!
I love sprouts, i didn't when I was a child, I used to eat them first so I had the rest of my dinner to take the taste away, my Das thought I loved them because I ate them first and was amazed when I said I didn't
I love sprouts now (didn't when I was a kid). I enjoy various recipes, pan fried with chestnuts and bacon, or tossed through with marmite. However, the thing I really like indulging in the silly, childish pretence that each sprout is a full size cabbage and I'm a giant eating it.
Dunno how it started, probably my mum's idea to get us kids to eat them because she grew them in the veg garden so we always had loads. Whatever, if I have sprouts I still turn into a cabbage eating giant in my head. Lol
Immediate recollection: button sprouts at Christmas, mixed with crumbled chestnuts, tossed in garlic olive oil. Yum!
