    It's nice to do that, respectful. I onnce heard someone suggest that there's some form of consciousness field in every thing. 'Stones sleep, trees dream, animals perceive the now, humans think, label, conceptualise.' Something along those lines, Pros and cons to each, and that's a great leveller of individual value and experiential limitation.

    The Japanese and more specifically the Shinto (I think) religions believe that everything has a spirit. This is why in their cartoons and even logos you often have characters that are normally inanimate.
