The Oliver McGowan Training - Should I apply?

I've been job hunting for a while and recently found an opportunity to deliver the Oliver McGowan training on autism and learning disabilities. As an autistic person with lived experience, I'm thinking about applying to deliver the online Tier 1 training, with the possibility of moving to face-to-face Tier 2 sessions later on. I'm unsure whether to apply and would love to hear perspectives on the value of this training from both autistic individuals and professionals in support settings. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

  • Hey Milly. From a practical, lived experience of this training I would say that yes, if you feel that the information delivered is appropriate. I completed the basic level of this training, as I work as a support worker, and know that the basics can`t (-and will never-) be able to cover the whole beautiful diversities of our community. I found that the very basic training just highlighted the negatives of care/support given and I would love that, along side this, a more positive outlook was provided(....surely, training should be a way to show how to do things correctly/better, not just how to do things that go wrong). What are your views on this and how do you feel that you could attribute (-this isn`t an interview!!!!Joy....but, I would love for you to be positive about why you feel you could move forward with this....sorry, this is meant as encouragement!!!Thumbsup

  • Thank you, I think I am going to sit through a session of this to see if it is for me. I am not sure which tier I want to deliver.
