I don't have any autistic friends

Hello everyone I am taking a break from social media but I am trying to connect more to people here. I find that there are some toxic people out there who know how to hurt me when I am vulnerable so I have to distance myself from them. I'm really sad at the moment but I still need to interact with people other than my husband. Not that there's anything wrong with him but he's my person and I don't want to always put everything on him. I tried to post yesterday but I guess my post didn't go through.

  • Hi and welcome to the community. Hope you find this forum useful.

  • Hi Lotus thanks so much. Random but I have a lotus tatoo. I thought of that when I saw your name

  • Hi again KL. I've just read your profile and see that you are a nurse - I'm impressed, that must be really hard work. You also say you have some "fur babies" - what are they? I like cats best but I don't have any pets now.

You also say you are a fan of The Walking Dead - I haven't watched that series but I didn't think a zombie apocalypse story would appeal to me now (been there & done that with movies like day of the dead years ago) however, I've just finished reading a series of books called "The Undead" by RR Haywood which I very much enjoyed.

I'm a woman in my mid sixties and retired now, and I love reading and playing video games. I also like interacting with people in this community - we often have some interesting conversations and it's safer than "social" media, which I steer clear of. I'm also married and prefer just spending time at home with my husband than seeing people socially face to face, so this forum gives me a chance to communicate with others in a way that suits me better.

  • Hi again lotus! Thanks for checking out my interests yes I am a nurse I don't work full time and I work nights mostly. I can't seem to get into a good routine if I work day or evening shift there is way too many distractions from too many people. I seem to do well with just dealing with patients and the other staff which is very close knit on night shift. It definitely impacts my social life but I can't hack it on any other shift because my time management suffers and the thought of putting a patient in harms way because of my time Management has always haunted me. I always had trouble with work and school needing certain accomodations but luckily this routine and shift works for me.

I like walking dead and most zombie and or apocalypse stories because I guess as a nurse I do not mind the gore, and I am very interested and amused at how they portray humans in the midst of chaos and catastrophic events. It's actually in my opinion more dangerous because of other humans and the zombies are less of a threat I feel. That is once people learn to live in a world with zombies then it's the other people they should worry about more.

I have 3 dogs and 3 guinea pigs. I didn't plan to have my own petting zoo but I took in my mom's dog when I already had two and I also got a ton of plants and I guess when everyone my age started having babies then I got the guinea pigs too lol. I am feeling insecure lately, comparing my life to others a lot because I am not as independent as I'd like to be. But my husband reminds me that he doesn't need a woman who makes as much money as him, he married me because I take care of him on other ways and I'm his best friend. Social media had brought some toxic people back into my life and recently caused me to feel bad about myself and my life when I was fine before and very happy. So now I'm trying to just keep my social interaction on here and see how that goes because I do better when I just socialize a little even if it's just talking about movies or something...anything that is not negative.

Thanks so much for the reply I look forward to more chats on here with people cause a lot of people here do seem very nice and friendly and interesting
