recently diagnosed late in life and looking for support to understand

Hi, I have recently been diagnosed with having autism, quite late in life, and tried to find guidance with trying to understand myself, may past, my behaviours, my difficulties/challenges in life. I'm finding this difficult. If anyone has any links I can look into that will help me here, this would be great. I have had a few weeks off work, trying to understand my diagnosis, who I am, feel confused due to masking heavily most my life, do I mask (which has had a negative impact on my mental health), or do I mot mask. Thinking about it is overwhelming. I live on my own, with no friends to share my worries with. So thank you for reading, it helps me feel I am not alone.

  • Hi and welcome. Many of us here are in the late diagnosis boat. This site has loads of links that lead to various bits of help and guidance.

For me, I found the best thing I did was to find a therapist/ psychologist that helped me explore who I am. If you go via your GP you'll probably end up jumping through several hoops to get to where you want to be. You can go privately which can prove expensive without health insurance.

I research a lot but not everything applies to everyone, as we are wildly different but with a common core.

    Take care.
