Conversation in my head

Is it an autistic thing to have a constant commentary going on in my head, going over and over either what I should be doing g, or obsessing about something that’s stressing me, or commenting on what I am currently doing as though I have no control?
It drives me mad, and I have to constantly listen to podcasts or TV to shut it up.

  • Is it an autistic thing to have a constant commentary going on in my head

Do you feel it is an external voice or more like your own thoughts?

If it your own thought verbalised then it could be what is often called "self-talk" and is autistic:

If it is another voice who you may even argue with then it could be another neurodiverse condition and really would need a consult with a specialist to help identify the cause.

If you want to be sure about this (rather than trusting input from randoms from the internet) then get a session with a psychiatrist to dig into this - probably not going to be cheap but could help pinpoint if there is anything there thay may need medication.

  • It's called self talk and it's perfectly normal, the majority of people have some sort of running commentary going through their heads, as to what you do about it, to lower the volume, if you find out bottle it and make millions.
