Late Diagnosed - informing children

I was recently late diagnosed as autistic in my mid-50s.

Over the Christmas holidays and in the weeks following my diagnosis, I did a lot of reading and watched YouTube videos to learn more. However, I’m taking things easy for now while I wait for my CBT to begin.

To date I’ve told my wife and one of my parents. Last weekend, I phoned my daughter, who is away at university. She was really pleased that I was open about it and supportive of me sharing.

What I hadn’t expected during the conversation was that she said her friend with ASD had automatically thought she was too. I spoke to her about the online tests, she seemed interested so I sent the link and the next day she said she scored high. Looking back, I’m not sure why I didn’t consider this possibility beforehand, and now I’m wondering if I should have said anything at all or approached it different.

I feel a bit of an idiot TBH, the usual say stuff before giving it any real thought.

We catch up each weekend but have said on WhatsApp she can call me anytime.  Any suggestions on how to take this forward with her ? or just give some space and see if she asks anymore.
