The new Forum Creative Space

Tragically, the former thread has been deleted.

My suspicion (thanks to a friend) is that it may be because I created it under an old ID and that ID has now been deleted, presumably as part of the forum changes that have been taking place.

So, this is the new one.

Please upload anything that you enjoy 'making' - art, photos, knitting, writing - anything.

Here's mine for starters.

  • This is a little project I'm working on (an old frequency counter using nixie tubes) - I've checked most of the circuitry and added labels to the wires that aren't connected to anything, although it only needs a couple of repairs there are a few bits missing and as I want to make it work as a clock as well, I'll need to add some extra circuitry.  I've decided to use a GAL16V8 chip to reset the seconds when it goes from 59 to 60 and reset the minutes when it goes from 59 to 60 and reset the hours when it goes from 23 to 24, I've written the boolean logic files for the GAL16V8 chips, compiled them and am ready to program the chips (I'm using a second GAL16V8 to control the position of the decimal point).  It also needs mounting more solidly so I'll be using a sheet of aluminium and stand-offs to reinforce the tin frame and I'll mount the multiway switch, potentiometer and LED on a U shaped piece of aluminium that looks to be about the right size.

The photo above is the frequency counter with the majority of the components I've sorted out ready to start construction (luckily I had all of the bits so it won't cost anything).  I still need to finish working out the veroboard layout, but I'm almost ready to start drilling holes and soldering in the new components.

  • That's a fascinating project! I imagine it will be very satisfying when it's up and running!
