What's Important?

Do you find your brain struggles to prioritise what's important from non-essential things?

My brain seems to be unable to distinguish between what's ok to what's a problem, it just views it all as a problem. I don't just mean like paying a bill or something, I mean everything, like all need stories. I view a wildfire in LA as frightening as an incoming tidal wave to the coast where I live, the same as a dose of cold/flu that I contract

Fear of everything is so unhealthy

  • I wonder is it linked to the executive function difficulties that some autistic people have? I have great difficulty processing and completing tasks in order of importance, but it feels more like being overwhelmed and not able to keep the focus on one thing to completion. These things tend to be housework and general home management, but can also be about keeping appointments, sending emails, and generally anything that needs my action. From what you say, it sounds as if in theory you know that a wildfire is more serious than a cold, but are you able to assess the likelihood of a wildfire impacting you personally? Hopefully, the suggestions given in the previous posts will help you move forward. Lists, tables,or spreadsheets are an excellent way of prioritising concerns.
