Essential maintenance: timing clarification

Thank you for your announcement.

You said "We will be performing essential maintenance on the 14th to the 16th of January. This will mean the Online Community will be unavailable for a short period of time whilst we perform the maintenance."

Could you please clarify: does this mean the community will be offline for the whole of that time, or just for one or more short periods of time within that window?

I'm sorry if this seems like a dumb question, but it would help me - and maybe others - to better understand what to expect.

    If they took it offline without warning then some people would complain. If they take it offline with advance warning then other people complain. They are damned either way but at least you won't be surprised if it goes offline and think something terrible has happened.

    You can't please all the people all the time.

    Is this as accurate as the debugging that was supposed to happen?

    If it's so urgent that it's happening at such short notice then why not disable the service imediately, if it's not then why not give us more notice?

    It will be somewhere  between a few minutes if everything goes to plan to a few hours if they run into problems.

    I've worked on loads of such upgrades and there are always bugs, errors and human fallability that can make things take longer than it ideally should.

    The mods are being as accurate as they can be here I'm afraid.
