Work with /befriend / Come dine with - A light hearted discussion

Remember the programme snog, marry avoid? And Come dine with me, which is still on TV?

I thought it would be fun to combine those ideas and choose famous autistic people to fit in these categories, but as we don't all want to snog or marry people and the avoid bit is not very nice, I've made up substitute categories:

1. Work with -  A famous autistic person you would like to work with (or if you don't work/ are retired, a person you would like to have worked with)

2. Befriend - A famous autistic person you would like to befriend, to see regularly for coffee, etc.

3. Come dine with - Up to 4 famous autistic people you would like to have dinner with.

Of course, if you would rather use snog, marry avoid as categories instead, go ahead - and if you want to choose people no longer alive that's fine too. It's just a bit of fun.

Here's a list of some famous autistic people to get us started:

Dan Ackroyd
Chris Packham
David Byrne
Gary Numan
Elon Musk
Anthony Hopkins
Tim Burton
Jerry Seinfeld
Eminem
Courtney Love
Temple Grandin
Daryl Hannah
Susan Boyle
Christine McGuiness
Roseanne Barr

But you can also choose any others you know of, even if they're only thought to be on the spectrum.

  • Work with - Carl Sagan (famous astronomer and childhood hero of mine).

Befriend - Chris Packham and Temple Grandin - there would be a lot of fascinating discussions to be had.

Come dine with - Anne Hegerty (from the Chase), Anthony Hopkins, Fern Brady (comedian), Dan Ackroyd.

  • I loved Carl Sagan's TV series Cosmos, which I watched when it was first broadcast in the UK - I believe that was in 1980. The only problem was, he had such a soothing voice that I kept falling asleep halfway through!

I also like Anthony Hopkins - I think he's a brilliant actor - but I ran out of places around my fictional dinner table!

  • It was Cosmos that introduced me to Sagan. The theme music still makes me feel warm inside. And yes, he had such a unique voice. I recently got an audiobook of one of his books - the Demon Haunted World - and part of it was narrated by Seth MacFarlane (Family Guy etc) and he did an absolutely amazing copy of Sagan’s voice.
