Newly graduated autistic looking for ADHD advice

Hi. I've recently passed the test and been told that I'm autistic but I have a question that I hope someone can help with.

While I was being given my diagnosis... Damn, this feels so much like I've already asked this question. I better check my activities in my profile.

...ok, while being given my diagnosis, the Dr said "it's the opinion of an [3 letter acronym] that something, something, something..." After a couple of minutes, I realised she was still talking and I hadn't heard a word because I was trying to work out what the acronym was for. When I told her, she said that was an example of 1 of my autistic traits. A bit later, I asked if it was possibly an example of inattentive ADHD trait and she said "no" because I had paid particular attention to it. The fact that I hadn't paid attention to anything else didn't seem to matter.

Can anybody offer any views on what I experienced (and do on a regular basis)? I'm not expecting a diagnosis from this single example, just wanting to know if this is common or uncommon in ADHD with or without autism.

Thanks

  • This is common with Dyslexic and ADHD and Autistic. I've often found it's the effect of a wild imagination and sometimes difficulty with task switching, especially if one topic is quite interesting and it's yet to be exhusted. These similarities connect us. I learned how to follow my ADHD friends with a great degree of hyper vigilance and symbolic Logic. So, just a formula + hard work.

There are many traits which connect us while each have something unique.
