The meaning of 'oh sure'

Hello everyone. I have a question. What does 'oh sure' mean?

This morning I had a conversation with my friend. I asked him if he still has fantasies about me/ interested in me. He answered 'oh sure'. He always replied to my requests and questions with 'sure'.

Is there a difference between 'sure' and 'oh sure'? I believe that 'oh sure' implies a sarcastic tone in the message. Is that correct?

Please correct me if I am wrong.

Thank you and have a nice evening! Blush

  • Is there a difference between 'sure' and 'oh sure'?

It is one of these words / phrases that is largely meaningless. I would ask for something more speific such as "what was the last fantasy you had about me then?", or "tell me why you are interested in me".

You are asking closed questions which do not lead to more conversation so these open questions are the way to go - coversation 101 skills basically.

Give it a try and see if it helps.

If he was being sarcastic then he will have to explain his sarcasm which will hopefully make him embarrassed and make the situaiton less of a joke on you, stealing some of its ability to hurt you.

  • Actually I haven't thought about that. I am struggling to understand the deeper meaning of questions and answers, and how it impacts the conversation.

Is there still any chance to ask him again?

  • Is there still any chance to ask him again?

If you have been flirting with him then I would say yes - be direct and give no space for vagueness and you have a chance to get to know what he things.

For small talk, I would suggest starting with this:

Stress-Free Small Talk - How to Master the Art of Conversation and Take Control of Your Social Anxiety - Gallagher LMFT, Richard S  (2020)
    ISBN‎ 1641528958

Don't stress if it doesn't make sense at first - it is designed to be more of a process of learing bits of the skills and slowly practicing them until you can piece them together seamlessly with time.

  • I think he was joking when he said he likes his privilege, but I am not 100% sure.
